I am a huge nerd of biochemistry and studying biological processes as they occur in the ocean. I try to combine both of these aspects into my research to better understand vital organisms in our oceans such as cyanobacteria and coral. In addition, I love to write for fun and for science communication (which is also fun). I love to free dive, scuba dive and surf when I am not working on my dissertation. I have a deep love and respect for the ocean.
My dissertation work involves using analytical chemistry alongside to better understand marine ecology and biogeochemical cycles. My previous work has involved studying cyanobacteria in the oligotrophic surface ocean and how certain "oil-like" compounds that they may feed and sustain oil-degrading bacteria in the ocean. My current work is on developing compound-specific isotope analysis to investigate in situ trophic ecology of corals in the Red Sea.
